Hylant Group Names Corporate Counsel
Michelle Lafferty appointed Corporate Counsel to the Toledo-Based Firm
TOLEDO, Ohio - March 6, 2009 - Michelle Lafferty has accepted the position of Corporate Counsel at Hylant Group. In this role, she will be responsible for the legal representation of Hylant Group in all litigation and legal matters, and will act as legal advisor to the Board of Directors. Lafferty began her career at Hylant in 2007 as Special Counsel to the Executive Risk Practice and as Claims Practice Leader and will maintain those responsibilities. Michelle has served as an advisor to clients and has been an advocate with insurance carriers on all insurance coverage and complex litigation management under Executive Risk policies. As the Claims Practice Leader, she instituted best practices, assisted in the transition to an electronic data storage system and served as an advisor to practice members and a client advocate for complex claims and litigation.

Prior to joining Hylant Group, Lafferty was in-house claims counsel for Genesis Professional Liability Managers, a professional and employment practices liability carrier. Previously, she spent several years in private practice as a trial attorney with a prominent law firm based in the Cleveland area, where she focused on commercial litigation, with a specialty in employment work-related matters.
Lafferty earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University and her bachelor's degree in political science from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. She is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS).
