The Atlantic hurricane season is underway! As this blog is being posted, Hurricane Isaias is gaining strength and heading towards the Bahamas and Florida. Hylant has gathered resources to help you prepare your family, your home and your business. Below is a repost of a blog we shared back in May.
With all that has transpired this year already, we hope that the Atlantic will remain quiet. However, predictions are for an above-average number of hurricanes to form this season. Even as this blog is being posted, the first named tropical storm of the season (Arthur) is expected to form within days. We share this information not to frighten anyone, but to help you prepare and be in the best position possible to protect the people and things that mean the most to you.
Review Your Insurance Coverage
Part of preparedness is reviewing your insurance coverage. If you haven’t spoken with your broker or insurance provider within the last 12 months, consider doing so now.
Be aware that losses due to flooding are not included in most homeowners and commercial property insurance policies. Flood coverage must be purchased separately and generally does not take effect for 30 days. Learn more here.
Know Who to Contact for Help
Hurricane season preparations should include gathering and storing important information where it can’t be destroyed and where you can access it when needed. This information should include your insurance policy(ies) as well as contact information for your broker or insurance carrier(s).
You can find contact information for all Hylant offices here. Carrier phone numbers are listed below:
Liberty Mutual: 844-325-2467
In addition to helping you file a claim, Hylant and your insurance carrier also can recommend contractors, should you need help restoring a building after a storm.
Be prepared. Be safe.
