Caring for community and improving the lives of others has been part of the Hylant fabric since there have been Hylants. So, when Polly Hylant-Tracy lost her battle with breast cancer in 1990, her family wanted to remember her in a special way—one that would also help others. Out of a heartbreaking loss a heartfelt event was born: Pollyball.
Now in its 29th year, Pollyball is an annual volleyball tournament and fundraising event in Toledo, Ohio, presented by the Hylant Family Foundation together with ProMedica. Through sponsorships and team fees, the tournament has raised more than $2 million to fight breast cancer.
But more than ever, we need your help.
Make a Difference in Someone’s Life
Because COVID-19 makes it unsafe to hold the volleyball tournament in person this year, event organizers have adapted it so that everyone can continue to support this cause and participate from home. They will be selling commemorative 2020 t-shirts to raise funds to continue essential programming through the YWCA of Northwest Ohio Breast Cancer Awareness and Early Detection Program.
Just one shirt can provide 100 women with reminder cards for yearly mammograms, something that could be lifesaving. Money raised also makes possible transportation to and from breast-health-related medical appointments, access to low-cost or no-cost mammograms, support services for those diagnosed with breast cancer and more.
One out of every eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. You probably know someone—or are someone—who has been affected by this disease. If you can, buy a shirt this year and join us in fighting this terrible disease.
